The main campus of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) is located in the northern part of Lahore, right alongside the historic “Grand Trunk Road (G.T. Road),” in close proximity to the magnificent Shalimar Gardens, an architectural marvel from the era of the Mughal Empire.
UET’s journey in the realm of education commenced in 1921 when it was established as the ‘Mughalpura Technical College.’
However, in 1923, the institution underwent a significant transformation and was renamed the ‘Maclagan Engineering College’ in tribute to Sir Edwards Maclagan, who held the position of Governor of Punjab during that period.
It was Sir Maclagan who laid the foundation stone for what we now recognize as the Main Block, a structure that has managed to preserve its majestic allure despite more than eight decades of use and the passage of time.
During its initial phase, UET primarily offered academic programs in just two specific fields: Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. This marked the beginning of its mission to provide high-quality engineering education in the region.
