What Is Sindh Healthcare Commission?
The Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC) is an autonomous regulatory body established in the Sindh province of Pakistan.
It was enacted through the Sindh Healthcare Commission Act of 2013, which was passed by the Provincial Assembly of Sindh on 24th February 2014 and subsequently notified on 20th March 2014.
The primary objective of the SHCC is to improve the quality of healthcare services provided within the province and ensure the protection of patients’ rights.
The SHCC is responsible for setting and enforcing standards for healthcare facilities, healthcare professionals, and healthcare services in Sindh.
It aims to create a transparent and accountable healthcare system that meets international standards and provides safe, effective, and high-quality care to the people of Sindh.
The commission is entrusted with the task of regulating and licensing healthcare establishments, including hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centers, and laboratories.
It conducts regular inspections and assessments to ensure that these facilities adhere to the prescribed standards of infrastructure, equipment, and hygiene.
In addition to regulating healthcare establishments, the SHCC also oversees the registration and licensing of healthcare professionals practicing in Sindh.
This includes doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, and other allied healthcare professionals. The commission verifies the qualifications, credentials, and professional conduct of these practitioners, ensuring that they meet the required standards and uphold ethical practices.
Moreover, the SHCC plays a vital role in addressing complaints and grievances related to healthcare services.
It provides a platform for patients to voice their concerns and takes appropriate action against healthcare providers found to be negligent or involved in malpractice.
The commission aims to safeguard the rights of patients, promote patient safety, and maintain the highest level of healthcare quality across the province.
