Sindh Food Authority
Sindh Food Authority (SFA) was established in accordance with the Sindh Food Authority Act, 2016, which was passed by the provincial Assembly of Sindh on March 8th, 2017.
The Act was assented to by the Governor of Sindh on April 8th, 2017, and subsequently published as an official legislative Act.
As per Section 3(1) of the Sindh Food Authority Act 2016, the Government of Sindh officially notified the formation of the Sindh Food Authority on May 3rd, 2018, with the Minister of Food appointed as its Chairman.
SFA’s primary responsibility is to regulate and monitor food businesses in Sindh, ensuring safety and adherence to food standards.

To ensure compliance with food safety standards, the SFA has issued over 846,000 improvement notices. These notices highlight areas where businesses need to enhance their practices and meet the required food safety standards. By identifying specific areas of improvement, the SFA aims to enhance the overall quality and safety of food products in Sindh.
- Operations Conducted: The SFA has conducted more than 15,360 operations across Sindh to inspect and monitor food businesses. These operations involve thorough inspections, sampling of food products, and verification of compliance with food safety regulations. By conducting regular operations, the SFA aims to identify and address any potential violations of food safety standards, ensuring the protection of public health.
- Premises Sealed: In its efforts to enforce food safety regulations, the SFA takes strict action against non-compliant food establishments. As a result, the authority has sealed 386 premises that failed to meet the required food safety standards or posed a risk to public health. By sealing such premises, the SFA aims to prevent the sale or distribution of unsafe food products, protecting consumers from potential health hazards.
- Product Bans: The SFA is committed to protecting consumers from potentially harmful or substandard food items. To achieve this, the authority has banned over 1,200 products that did not meet the necessary safety standards. By imposing bans on such products, the SFA aims to ensure that only safe and quality food products are available in the market, reducing the risk of health-related issues for consumers.
